Shanghai Translation Publishing House, a leading publisher of foreign books translated into Chinese, has rolled out an intriguing selection of titles at this year’s Shanghai Book Fair.
One exciting new title making its debut at the fair is “The Borges Collection,” which features translations of 17 classic works by Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges, including “The Garden of Forking Paths.”
“On Grief and Reason,” the final collection of essays from Nobel Prize winner Joseph Brodsky, is also available. In this insightful book, Brodsky starts with an introspective meditation of his experiences in the Soviet Union and his dull life in America.
A new edition of Austrian writer Robert Musil’s unfinished “The Man without Qualities,” which has been out of print for several years, is another treat bookworms won’t want to miss.
Mao Danqing, the Chinese-language translator of Japanese writer Haruki Murakami’s bestseller “Men without Women,” will also have an autograph session during the Book Fair.
Meanwhile, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, STPH has dug into its catalog to offer a selection of books on the Anti-Fascist War, including “Schindler’s List,” “The Tin Drum,” “The Bridge on the River Kwai” and many others.
New non-fiction titles from the publishers include: “The Last Panda” and “The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History and Toms River.” Hilary Clinton’s “It Takes a Village” and John Kennedy’s “Profiles in Courage” are on display as well.
STPH is also organizing a series of events involving foreign writers. South Korean writers Lee Seung-u and Song Sok-ze will give talks on their latest books and Welsh writer Francesca Rhydderch will give a speech.
The publisher will be promoting its e-books and mobile reading app at their Digital Experience Area. The company’s app can also notify users about upcoming literary events.
