Over the past 20 years, nearly 2.2 million people registered for the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) and about 240,000 people passed the test, officials said at a seminar celebrating the 20th anniversary of the CATTI on Dec. 15.

As a national-level translation and interpretation proficiency accreditation test, the CATTI has set national criteria for qualified translators and interpreters, said Huang Yulong, director of the Academy of Translation and Interpretation under China International Communications Group.

The test has helped to foster national translation professionals, and promoted the integrated development of translation and interpretation education and the translation industry, Huang added.
